In this gothic mystery set in Yorkshire, Lady Anne Addison is bound and determined to uncover the source of howls in the dark, for it can't possibly be a werewolf, as her friend Lydia fears. After she stumbles over the dead body of Cecilia Wainwright upon her arrival at Darkefell Castle, she tangles with the marquess, whose deep, steady voice matches his personality. In sharp contrast, Cohen portrays Lady Lydia as the woozy-headed bride of her inoffensive husband, John. Lady Anne's sleuthing ability is matched only by her determination to deduce who is wearing a wolf cloak, killing sheep and women, and scaring villagers.
