HOW TO BUILD A HEART

Bilingual narrator Almarie Guerra delivers an enjoyable portrayal of 16-year-old half-Puerto-Rican Izzy Crawford--whose family has moved from town to town since the death of her father. Attending a private school on scholarship and living in a trailer park, Izzy tries hard to keep her family life private. But when her family is chosen by Habitat for Humanity to receive a new house, as excited as she is about finally putting down roots, she also struggles with the impending collision of the secret pieces of her life. As Izzy works to discover what truly defines family and home, Guerra gives each character a unique voice, making them sound fully authentic, especially in her natural shifts between English and Spanish accents.
