This time Monsarrat and his Irish housekeeper and co-investigator, Mrs. Mulroony, scrutinize the murder of a man who made it his business to know everyone else's business. Written by the prolific Australian author Tom Keneally, who is most famous for his 1982 Booker Prize-winning novel SCHINDLER'S ARK, and his daughter, Meg, the story is replete with telling details about the era's life and times. English's light tone and relaxed pace offer listeners time to appreciate the local color. And his vibrant characterizations of several nationalities of convicts and the free--both men and women--enliven the scenery beautifully.
