In a calm, steady voice, Derek Perkins narrates this history of Italian resistance during WWII, most particularly between 1944 and 1945. In her fourth book in the Resistance Quartet, Moorehead focuses on four Piedmontese (northwest Italy) women--Ada, Frida, Silvia, and Bianca--as they and other resistance partisans fight to overthrow the fascist regime in Turin and the surrounding mountains. Perkins's fluid delivery rarely fluctuates, whether he's describing the atrocities committed by Nazis or listing dates and events. His lack of emotional involvement allows listeners to digest details even as they contemplate the horrors of war.
