This audiobook is a biography of Eglantyne Jebb, who founded the Save the Children Fund in 1919. It is primarily delivered by Joely Richardson, but author Clare Mulley also does some of the narration. Both talented narrators have cultivated, crisp, and authoritative voices, which lead listeners to focus on this remarkable British woman. It is easy to understand how a young woman of her Jebb's social class might dabble in good works, but she went far beyond typical charity work. In particular, she raised awareness and support for the children in Germany, who were starving after WWI. The narrators help listeners experience the postwar angst. Eglantyne battled prejudices, bureaucracies, and tightwads but managed to make Save the Children a viable organization--still active a hundred years later.
