Cornell Collins and Victoria Aston narrate an enemies-to-lovers story that also has a strong mystery element to it. Jewel thief Templeton Lane is accused of a violent double murder and turns to Susan Lazarus, a private detective who bears him a grudge, for help. Dual narration makes sense for a story with dual points of view; Collins voices Templeton, and Aston voices Susan. Templeton is upper class, so Collins's suave delivery is perfect. Susan, by contrast, is from a much lower class, and Aston uses a far less refined accent for her. Both are adept at a range of accents, so the secondary characters are realistically portrayed according to their various stations. K.M.P. © AudioFile 2020, Portland, Maine [Published: FEBRUARY 2020]
