THE REGRETS

Narrators Jay Ben Markson, Christie Moreau, and Gary Tiedemann convey the weirdness and wonder of a surreal and surprisingly sexy romance between the living and the dead--well, almost dead. Thomas Barrett has died, but an "institutional error" has sent him back to earth for an additional 90 days before he can properly cross over. During his tenure, Thomas becomes enmeshed in a most unusual love triangle involving quirky librarian Rachel and her predictable ex-boyfriend, Mark. Moreau deftly communicates Rachel's deadpan humor, while Markson skillfully depicts Thomas's shift from detached melancholy to obsession. Tiedemann is the perfect foil, providing a bland delivery of the narrative that balances the increasingly unstable atmosphere. Together, this trio of narrators provides a haunting listen, capturing the otherworldly and all-too-fleeting limbo that the lovers inhabit.
