There has never been a narrator more suited for an audiobook than Kirby Heyborne is for this lyrical coming-of-age story about a boy called August who moves as a child from Michigan to Montana. Heyborne captures the flat and affect-less accent of Michigan so perfectly that listeners will be transported there. There are passages that go on for more than 10 minutes without dialogue. It falls upon Heyborne to keep listeners going through the winding descriptions of desolate landscapes and high-peaked mountain ranges. He not only keeps listeners going, he also keeps them hanging on every word. Heyborne's narration makes this small, interesting story monumental.
