Tenniel Evans recounts his early childhood in 1920s Africa and his abrupt relocation to boarding school in England, away from the family and poverty he had known. While remorseless about leaving his family behind, Evans is anything but aloof when retelling his amazing story. Evans's performance is packed with the humor, wonder, and innocence of a 10-year-old and complemented with the wisdom that comes with age. Evans flips back and forth between recollections of Africa and stories of adjustment in England. While the shifts seem sudden and at times confusing, the overall package is delightfully entertaining.
