As author and narrator, Tom Cox reflects on the varying geography of Britain, the hills he's ambled up, the many houses he's lived in, the ghosts inhabiting those houses, his many cats, and the critters in the yard. He even muses on his accent, describing it as "the end of the middle" and never having met a university-educated person. That may be so, but it is also charming, and Cox is frequently so wryly amusing that it's just a pleasure to be in his company. In addition to walking, Cox also loves to swim, no matter how cold or wild the water is, and his enthusiasm is infectious. A particular highlight throughout is Cox's shouty dad. Cox raises his voice to match the loud voice, but with a clear affectionate note. The listener will be prompted to pop outside to walk and observe.
