DOUBLE ACT

Identical twins learn to deal with tremendous change following the death of their mother. One of these changes is a shift in the balance of power between the overpowering Ruby and the self-deprecating Garnet, and then sparks really fly. Karpf sensitively interprets the author's subtle play of tone and emotion so that the listener understands both the explicit and implicit effects of the characters' words. She conveys the twins' marked similarities and the almost imperceptible personality changes that both undergo. Her secondary characters, regardless of age or gender, come through with similar care. A thought-provoking story, especially for young listeners, this intelligent performance ensures that the story's message comes across loud and clear. B.M.W.
