DRAWN WITH THE SWORD

by | Read by Dick Estell

History • 9 hrs. • Unabridged • © 1996

This collection of essays by Princeton University historian McPherson considers many of the great controversies related to the American Civil War. While the essays were written at different times for different publications, they fit together as an organic whole, considering the causes, developments and implications of what McPherson calls the "the Second American Revolution." The reading, which doesn't match the quality of these essays, seems distanced and lacks McPherson's passion for the subject matter. However, the reading is clear and slow enough for the listener to digest the dense material. M.L.C. ©AudioFile, Portland, Maine [Published: JAN 98]
