Braden Wright narrates a space opera with startling parallels to the current world situation. When an unexpected discovery brings a potentially devastating war to the Eight Worlds, the rival Landry and Peregoy regimes must decide just how far they are willing to go to protect their respective interests. Wright smoothly navigates both the sci-fi technospeak and the metaphysical terminology, imbuing each with authority. The large number of characters in the story and the frequent shifts in point of view cause confusion, although Wright mitigates that as best he can with a solid performance of the main characters. In the end though, despite Wright's capable narration, the story is dragged down by an overly complicated plot and a pat ending. K.M.P. © AudioFile 2020, Portland, Maine [Published: JULY 2020]
