Vikas Adam draws the listener in, expertly narrating Cervini’s work, which charts the beginning of the gay rights movement in the United States. The work follows the passionate, quirky, and perhaps more than a bit self-involved homophile activist and astronomer Frank Kameny. Delivering a collection of interviews, letters, and court documents, Vikas Adam does an excellent job lending unique voices to real historical figures. The listener will appreciate Adam’s attentiveness to the personalities of gay, lesbian, and trans people, whose perspectives on this snapshot of American history show up in Cervini’s book. While there are more diverse LGBTQ historiographies currently in publication, this recent monograph is worthwhile for listeners who love history.
