Narrator Jennifer Jill Araya creates a spirited voice for 15-year-old Francisca, a poor orphan who narrowly escapes from her abusive stepfather. In order to hide, she takes on the identity of Lady Emmeline Coates, a victim of a nearby shipwreck. Years later, Francisca finds herself living in America during the revolution, and, although she has almost completely transformed herself, she still has a rebellious side that leads her to become a spy for the Continental Army. Now she needs to decide whether to fulfill her dream of being a lady and marrying well or to be herself. Araya succeeds in adding drama to the dialogue as she smoothly transitions from character to character in this fictional story loosely based on true events.
