This twisty and fast-paced mystery is narrated by Matt Godfrey, whose well-paced narration keeps the plot moving. Mace Reid is a dog trainer specializing in training cadaver dogs to assist the police. Listeners join him as the latest addition to his canine household turns out to have special skills. An incident at the dog's first assignment kicks off a series of events in which he, the hunter, becomes the hunted. Godfrey's characterizations of the protagonists are strong, never once hinting at the surprise that unfolds as the story races towards a climatic end. His portrayal of Mace helps create a character whose passion for dogs is palpable and whose dry, self-deprecating humor adds to his likability.
