Incredulity and suspicion thread their way into every nuance of this audiobook, narrated wonderfully by Casey Withoos. She credibly conveys the central characters' feelings and keeps listeners at full attention. Susan Middleton's sister disappeared, without warning, and apparently without reason, 20 years ago, only to reappear to claim her inheritance. Is she really the missing heir or an impostor? Those are the questions Susan faces when Karen, now Carly, resurfaces. Withoos's ideal delivery complements Susan's conflicting emotions, ranging from intense joy to uncertainty and fear. But it is how Withoos handles the unexpected yet satisfying conclusion that brings the story full circle. D.J.S.
