This author of this audiobook about prison and prisoners, nicely narrated by Dion Graham, has been on San Quentin's death row since 1990. Masters gives us stories about his prison friends, his journey to Buddhism, and his transformation from a violent to a peaceful man. Graham's performance of the narrative part of the book is good, and he really shines in the audiobook's brief character sketches. His handling of dialogue is excellent. Some listeners may be disappointed that there is not more about the crime that put Masters on death row, a prison guard murder. Masters maintains his innocence but can't say more because of pending appeals. This short audiobook is worth a listen. G.S. © AudioFile 2020, Portland, Maine [Published: NOVEMBER 2020]
