BOY

In a steady, measured voice, narrator James Fouhey presents the challenging circumstances faced by Boy (so named after Boy George) Cornelius McVeigh, a Canadian 18-year-old in his last year of high school. Boy contends with a difficult family life. His sister died in a car crash, his father is incarcerated, and his alcoholic mother and her boyfriend neglect his baby brother. When Boy meets Mara, a homeless man with a problematic past and the supernatural power to stop and restart time, Boy begins to face his family's secrets. Fouhey's calm narration conveys a hint of the magical realism in the story while not shying away from the considerable difficulties of Boy's life.
