JUST JILTED

Brenda Scott Wlazlo’s enthusiastic narration makes up for this audiobook’s lackluster dialogue, and her quick pace keeps the sluggish plot moving. Her energetic tone enhances comedic moments. After being jilted on her wedding day, Adrian is determined to move on by diving into work. But when her magazine editor pairs her up with Jackson, a sexy, smug novelist, the collaboration proves tough. To add to her frustrations, the romantic relationships of others in her life are challenging everything she thought she knew about love. A shouted garble of consonants highlights Adrian’s distress when she’s questioned by her roommate post-jilting. An exasperated “fine” and defensive tones capture a difficult child-parent relationship. And Wlazlo is perfection when Adrian mentally corrects a Freudian slip.
