The ninth case for Bow Street Runner John Pickett is wonderfully performed by longtime series narrator Joel Froomkin. Pickett is summoned to the West Country with instructions to locate the summoner. Still overwhelmed by guilt over having accidentally killed a woman, Pickett eagerly accepts the new case, although he hates to leave his new wife, Julia, who is expecting their first child. When Pickett fails to find the man in question, he returns home to discover Julia has been abducted. Froomkin offers a full-cast audio. His characters are well defined, each remarkably individual and immediately identifiable. He offers flawless accents and a clear grasp of the inherent humor and textual subtleties.
