Listeners will be delighted to return to the small mountain town of Virgin River, California, and the return is made that much more enjoyable by the wonderful narration of Therese Plummer. Kaylee, an author under deadline whose mother has just passed away, escapes to Virgin River to finish her book. When the house where she is to stay catches fire, Landry, a local artist, offers her a cabin on his property. Plummer's portrayal of each character is spot-on. She elicits sympathy as Kaylee grieves for her mother. As Landry, Plummer sounds masculine yet deeply caring. When Kaylee is joined by her mother's older friends for Thanksgiving, the mix of their older voices washes over listeners, making palpable Kaylee's joy at their unexpected presence. Plummer's fine performance encourages listeners to connect with the emotional journey of Kaylee's healing. S.B. © AudioFile 2020, Portland, Maine [Published: NOVEMBER 2020]
