Danielle Cohen narrates a Napoleonic fantasy adventure. To their mutual dismay, Captain Kit Brightling and Colonel Rian Grant must work together to uncover a plot against the Crown. Kit is an orphan who was raised in a loving home in which she was taught her worth from a young age. Cohen imbues Kit with confidence, poise, and more than a dash of charm. Despite Grant having been born into the aristocracy, his life was more difficult, and Cohen shades her portrayal of him with a mixture of determination, melancholy, and acute perception. There are numerous secondary characters, and Cohen gives them all distinct and appropriate characterizations.
