Talmadge Ragan narrates an unexpectedly touching ménage novella. Lisa Cartwright is trying to get over her ex, Joey Novak, but Joey refuses to accept they are no longer together. Meanwhile, Finch Alice has her eye on Lisa. Ragan perfectly captures Lisa's exasperated irritation with Joey. Equal parts love and frustration, her feelings are more powerful precisely for that. Joey is bold and brash, part of a large and loud New York family, and while Ragan stumbles occasionally with his accent, she nails his demeanor perfectly. Finch is quieter than the other two, but it is the sort of quiet that conveys a person who is tired of being overlooked and repressed, feelings that Ragan captures. A slightly rushed ending does not detract from Ragan's skill. K.M.P. © AudioFile 2021, Portland, Maine [Published: JANUARY 2021]
