Elizabeth Knowelden skillfully narrates this lengthy Russian novel with gravitas. The classic story of a woman who is torn between her cold husband and a lover travels the drawing rooms of St. Petersburg and the rolling fields of Russia. Knowelden's narration captures the richly emotional nature of this literary work, providing clear representations of the many characters and making them come to life for the listener. Her expression of the text, both passionate and thoughtful, keeps the listener fully engaged, even with passages that might be easy to skip over otherwise. This novel is long and in the wrong hands--or rather, voice--could be a chore. With Knowelden's performance, the experience is a true delight.
