Narrator Jessica Almasy wraps listeners in a warm blanket as they listen to this romance between detective Roxanne King and Zep Guidry, set in the Cajun parish of Papillion. Roxanne has relocated from New York City after a bitter divorce, and Almasy gives her a hint of a Brooklyn accent that complements Zep's Southern drawl. When Roxanne's family arrives for an unexpected visit, she makes up a romantic relationship with Zep. He has a reputation for not being serious about life, or romance, and Almasy has the listener feeling his pain at being dismissed. Almasy does such a great job with the dialogue between men and women that listeners will forget it's a woman who is delivering the men's words. S.B.
