Narrator Hazem Shammas perfectly delivers the blended accent of author Farid Ahmed, who is originally from Bangladesh and has lived in New Zealand for more than 30 years. Ahmed's wife, Husna, was a victim of the mass murder at a Christchurch mosque in 2019. Shammas's voice is deep and his pacing deliberate. As he describes their marriage in this audiobook, scenes include their first day together, her commitment to caring for him after he is paralyzed by a drunk driver, and their drive to the mosque on their last day together. He is proud of and grateful for his wife's generosity and kindness. But Ahmed wants more than to tell Husna's story; he counsels listeners on the need for forgiveness and choosing love over hate in the face of tragedy. Shammas exudes Farid's sincerity and seriousness of purpose. It's clear he's the ideal match for this loving memoir. A.B. © AudioFile 2021, Portland, Maine [Published: JUNE 2021]
