In this series debut, narrator Jennifer Vuletic entertains listeners in the best traditions of a space opera. She is adept at creating characters with diverse personalities no matter their gender, race, or ethnicity and relies on many different accents to create a cosmopolitan ambiance. The story is told from the point of view of Jian, a security officer aboard an Earth expedition to establish a colony on a distant planet. An alien empire commanded by a royal house of dragons offers to help, and Jian finds herself acting as a liaison with a dragon princess and her sidekick AI, Mark. Vuletic's playfulness with the plentiful banter, mostly revolving around Mark, provides comic relief. Vuletic is equally skilled at creating suspense and sustaining drama. J.E.M.
