SPACE ODDITY

Ciaran Saward masterfully narrates a quirky tale that uses David Bowie's song "Space Oddity" as a springboard. Listeners feel 10-year-old Jake Jones's embarrassment as his father publicly break-dances and sings, making Jake decide he wants to divorce him. Saward's portrayals of father and son are believable when they go on a camping trip, hoping to improve their relationship. But Jake is shocked to learn that his dad is an alien when he accidentally transports them to ProximaB. There, Jake learns about his dad's early life. Most moving is heartbroken Jake's return to Earth alone. Saward sparkles as Jake and his friend, Amber, return him to outer space to rescue his dad.
