THE GREAT GATSBY

by | Read by Kyle Tait, Chelsea Stephens

Classics • 5 hrs. • Unabridged • © 1925

Kyle Tait's solid delivery closely follows the voice of Fitzgerald's first-person narrator, Nick Carraway, who recounts the doomed romance of Jay Gatsby on Long Island in the 1920s. Tait adopts a matter-of-fact tone for Nick that makes the audiobook's narration clear and well paced. In contrast to his straightforward portrayal of Nick, Tait captures the gruffness of Tom Buchanan, the husband of Gatsby's beloved Daisy, and the whimsy of Gatsby himself. This production pairs Tait with narrator Chelsea Stephens, who voices the female characters. Stephens reveals her versatility in Daisy Buchanan's nervous enthusiasm as compared to her friend Jordan's languid Kentucky accent. Both Tait and Stephens complement each other in their delivery of dialogue, and their performances make this audiobook engaging for the listener.
