Author/narrator Anne Lamott's delivery sounds relaxed, even low energy, at first. But as this audiobook unfolds and listeners come to know how she sees the world, her tone and pacing and everything about her reading begin to sound beautiful. She's a snappy storyteller who charms with her self-effacing perspectives and humanitarian sensibilities. The unexpected requirements of her 2019 marriage--her first, at age 65--are the centerpiece in the array of familiar insults she describes having to navigate. She sounds like all of us who strive to be honest about the problems of life and our part in those problems. More laments than complaints and more satisfying than mere kvetching, Lamott's observations, heard in her own voice, are a wonderful way to tap into warmth and wisdom.
