Treuer does not shy away from descriptions of violence and the use of racially charged terms but addresses these issues in a calm, compassionate voice. While their encyclopedic nature might be better explored in print rather than listened to straight through, hearing Treuer's explanations in his own voice brings reality and presence to this work.
