In Bogota, Colombia, Hector and his four siblings must fend for themselves after being abandoned by their father. They find themselves hungry every day but seek to stay together at any cost. Narrator Johnny Rey Diaz provides expressive vocal characterizations for the siblings' dialogue and delivers clear, comfortably paced narrative. In a parallel story, Nina, a girl living in an orphanage in Bogota after her parents are imprisoned for their political activities, seeks to befriend the "Immortal Boy," a mysterious figure who protects bullied children. Ana Osorio's voicing of the young Nina is fittingly youthful, with a high-pitched feminine articulation and a gentle tone. As the stories intersect, both narrators convey the difficult circumstances of these children. S.E.G. © AudioFile 2021, Portland, Maine [Published: JUNE 2021]
