Senior CNN editor and Pulitzer Prize finalist Ronald Brownstein offers his treatise that 1974 was the year when Los Angeles rose to be the pinnacle of creative cultural output for all major media. Narrator Will Damron, with considerable ease and grace, raises the interest and entertainment levels significantly. Using pleasing tones, his spot-on phrasing and inflection rise to high artistic levels. Brownstein's emphatic and frequent emphasis on the political sphere may weaken the strength of the insights to be gleaned. There is, of course, no question that an era that offered "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" and "The Bob Newhart Show," as well as the musicality of the Laurel Canyon phenomenon, including The Mamas and the Papas and Carole King, make this period a welcome memory lane to traverse.
