LETTERS TO CAMONDO

When English artist/author/narrator Edmund de Waal is asked to exhibit his ceramics at the spectacular Musée Nissim de Camondo, he is overwhelmed by the magnificence of the private collection of Moise de Camondo (1860-1935). Camondo was a Jewish banker who bequeathed his Paris home and art collection to the public. De Waal begins a series of personal letters to Camondo, his voice reflecting the wonders he sees all around him--from the beauty of the porcelains and paintings to the elegant furnishings. In later chapters, de Waal recounts the Nazi occupation of Paris during WWII, the growing anti-Semitism in France, and the deaths of Moise's family in Auschwitz.
