A fantastic team of narrators personalizes this wonderful story, a memoir of the author's initial mission to connect Negro League ballplayers with each other. The project soon evolves into serious research to seek confirmation of their careers so each player can receive a rightful pension. The ensemble narration works well. Aden Hakimi takes the role of the author, whose research was started--incredibly--when he was in his early teens. The unlikely pairing of the young white kid from Boston and the older African-American gentlemen who become close friends is heartfelt. Having multiple voices narrate vignettes from the former ballplayers is a smart approach. The listener doesn't have to be a baseball fan to appreciate this delightful story of friendship and willingness to help others. M.B. © AudioFile 2021, Portland, Maine [Published: APRIL 2021]
