Alex Lancer helps listeners imagine foggy Victorian London as he narrates a horror story that humorously mirrors Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson. Listeners meet old-fashioned, unorthodox Dr. Conan and his young protégé, Dr. Hastings, who are called in by Scotland Yard after a lamplighter discovers an ancient-looking dead man. When they examine the body, he seems to have aged just before being murdered. Lancer impressively presents a convincing Conan, who shockingly reveals that the killer is not human. Enthusiastic Hastings, assigned to the streets and bars, encounters Lilith, Lancer's best creation, whose affable manner that suddenly turns threatening. Conan's conclusion that Lilith may be supernatural, supported by Lancer's morbid delivery, makes for a pleasantly unsettling listening experience.
