The 22nd installment in the Andy Carpenter series is just as delightful and entertaining as the first, thanks in large part to Grover Gardner's narration. With a hint of whimsy, Gardner portrays Andy's quirky sense of humor and frequent sarcasm--but also conveys his deep commitment to three things: dogs, his family, and finding justice. At home in New Jersey Andy and his wife witness a man beating a dog. Another man intervenes, pummeling the abuser before Andy can jump in. The police arrive, and the rescuer is surprised to hear that he's wanted for murder in Maine. Gardner's consistent characterization of Andy allows the listener to easily follow detailed conversations. Lobster rolls and Maine accents add to the enjoyment.
