This story takes listeners to a unique world, and Valente has a distinct way of crafting inventive turns of phrase. So this audiobook could easily be confusing. But narrator Penelope Rawlins delivers each line with such effortlessness and clarity that it's easy to follow along. In the future, the land is gone; only a few patches remain, including Garbagetown, a floating island of trash, home to a handful of survivors. One of those is Tetley Abednego, a girl full of hope, anger, and love for her island. Rawlins does an outstanding job creating the range of fascinating big personalities who make up Garbagetown.
