The deep voice of narrator Matthew Brenher draws the listener into this historical romance. Lord Grayson Child attempts to confront the owner of a London newspaper, only to discover the owner is actually Lady Isadora Descartes, with whom he was involved 10 years earlier. While at the newspaper's office, they discover the body of its photographer. Brenher skillfully uses a mix of accents for a full range of characters, including the newspaper staff, police officers, and Grayson's upper-class friends. The deft handling of female characters provides a smooth flow to the listening experience. Brenher's adept cadence helps to build tension as the hunt for the killer escalates into an attempt to thwart a bombing. S.B. © AudioFile 2021, Portland, Maine [Published: OCTOBER 2021]
