Narrator Melissa Moran effectively draws listeners into this audiobook, which combines the paranormal, a police procedural, a mystery, and a romance into one engaging package. Archivist Andrea Kelly finds an unexpected roommate in the house she recently moved into, the ghost of 6-year-old murder victim Billie Mae. Andrea and her best friend, Detective William Taka, look into the case and those of other murdered children in the neighborhood. Moran provides a convincing childlike voice for Billie Mae and believably performs the male characters, whether they're alive, dead, good, or very bad. Listeners will be challenged to be open to paranormal possibilities and to consider the nature of love. While there are aspects of the story that stretch credibility, listeners will be drawn in by the complex characters and sustained action.
