Narrator Rebecca Lowman brings listeners the true story of two women, Nora May French and Carrie Sterling, who become enmeshed in each other's lives until they both meet a tragic end. Lowman is a strong narrator who is up to the challenge of illuminating the complicated relationship between Nora and Carrie and Carrie's husband, George. The setting is Carmel, a center of the California Arts & Crafts Movement in the early 1900s. Lowman captures the headstrong personality and bohemian sensibilities of Nora, a minor poet. Lowman is also convincing as Carrie, a long-suffering wife who is searching for love. Toggling between these two ambitious, passionate women, Lowman draws listeners deeper and deeper into a love triangle that eventually comes to involve cyanide.
