An ensemble of narrators, led by Lesley Harcourt, enhances this gothic/paranormal story. There's a sense of foreboding as listeners meet Olivia Stay and her daughters in 1998. When they move to a Scottish lighthouse to paint a mural, Olivia is given a disturbing sketch. Later, daughter Sapphire finds a grimoire recounting details of horrific witch trials and burnings in 1662. When the family meets the locals--relatives of the witches--they realize that the children, as possible sacrifices, are in danger. Chillingly, the entire family disappears under mysterious circumstances. The ensemble believably presents the diverse characters. Listeners will cringe when the sisters return to the lighthouse in 2021, seeking answers. Audio remarkably conveys the changing times, accents, and personalities that are part of this unforgettable tale. S.G.B. © AudioFile 2022, Portland, Maine [Published: APRIL 2022]
