The sixth and last installment of Ackroyd's History of England series covers the twentieth century. It is not necessary to have listened to previous volumes to enjoy the conclusion to this series. Narrator Antony Ferguson has a voice that is crisp and clear. He is paired well with this audiobook because of his English accent and expressive tones. The author analyzes not only historical events but also changes to English society. Passages about the Beatles and Teddy Boys are enjoyable due to Ferguson's clever delivery. Listeners will be surprised to learn of the rapid changes that occurred during this time. Don't be surprised if you have a hankering to listen to "Yellow Submarine" after finishing this prodigious audiobook. A.M. © AudioFile 2021, Portland, Maine [Published: NOVEMBER 2021]
