Scottish narrator Cathleen McCarron's performance of this Glasgow-based procedural will keep listeners glued to their headphones. Her narration reflects the story--intense when appropriate, lighter when called for. She is excellent with voices, injecting personality into even minor characters. In this 12th series entry, Detective Inspector Colin Anderson and Detective Sergeant Freddie Costello are investigating the death of a young woman when they are reassigned to handle a nasty case. An elderly man has been tortured and killed in his home, setting off social media rumors about pedophilia. Meanwhile, Anderson's beloved dog dies, and Costello is accused of stealing from a neighbor. The audiobook is bleak in some spots but offers humor as well. McCarron handles both with ease. A really fine performance. G.S. © AudioFile 2022, Portland, Maine [Published: FEBRUARY 2022]
