THE CHASE

When an orchestrated breakout occurs at a maximum security prison in Nevada, the turmoil makes for an entertaining audiobook that benefits from excellent performances by David de Vries and Lisa Negron. What makes the story work are the conflicts: among prisoners, among administrators, and among the law enforcement officers who must locate the escapees. All this is accompanied by the search for a death row inmate whose guilt is in doubt. Using two narrators works well in an audiobook in which the major characters are both male and female and the narrators provide dialogue from differing perspectives. De Vries and Negron each use a deliberate style that complements the intensity of the story. The result is a novel that keeps listeners wondering what will happen next.
