THE SUNSHINE CLUB

As Sissy returns home to Newton, Texas, after the sudden death of her beloved Aunt Blanche, narrator Brittany Pressley makes her grief palpable for listeners. In childhood, Blanche and her two dear friends, Gussie and Ina Mae, formed the Sunshine Club. Now, as they cope with their loss, Sissy starts to fall for Pastor Luke. Pressley gives Luke, a man of God, a calm manner without losing any of his masculinity. She provides subtle nuances as Sissy senses Blanche's presence from beyond, speaking to her and offering advice. Sissy has inherited a vodka-demanding cockatiel, and Pressley's portrayal of the bird adds a touch of vibrancy.
