Narrator Marnye Young inhabits this twisted thriller with flawless pacing and a compassionate tone. The coming-of-age story begins when Alexa leaves the claustrophobic care of her parents to take a job and move to New York City. But something's wrong, and there's an ominous feeling suggested by Young's performance that deepens when Alexa is reunited with her estranged sister, Beth. Recently discharged from a long-term stay in a psychiatric hospital, Beth exposes cracks in Alexa's psyche, producing lots of surprises.
