Narrator Meg Sylvan has a unique, almost scratchy, quality to her voice that makes the characters memorable in this short contemporary romance. While Sadie is an exceptionally superstitious engineer, it doesn't get in the way of how much she loves her work on sustainable construction projects. But now she's stuck in an elevator with the man she once fell hard and fast for--who then betrayed her. Clearly, her luck has run out on avoiding their inevitable confrontation. Sylvan transitions smoothly between the first-person point of view, particularly the heroine's droll humor, and the more stoic masculine tone and upper-crust accent of the hero. Listeners will also enjoy how Sylvan paces her delivery to match the energy of each scene. A.L. © AudioFile 2022, Portland, Maine [Published: SEPTEMBER 2022]
