THE SUMMER GETAWAY

When life overwhelms Robyn Caldwell, she escapes to her Great-Aunt Lillian's antique-filled California mansion, and narrator Tanya Eby brings the listener along. Robyn leaves behind her teenage son and spoiled daughter, and dumps her obnoxious boyfriend in Florida. Eby deftly portrays all the characters. She embodies Robyn's bridezilla daughter and captures her transformation into a self-aware adult after she follows her mother to California. Eby brings out the sleaze of Robyn's ex-boyfriend, providing an excellent contrast to the charm of Mason, who will inherit the mansion. As 94-year-old Lillian, Eby depicts a delicate yet spirited woman. Listeners will be rooting for Robyn to find happiness--hopefully, with Mason.
